Lynx to the Pharaoh, my next release is coming out on 1 July. I thought I’d celebrate and invite you all to join me on a virtual trip to Egypt. Everyone who joins me on my journey (i.e. posts a comment on an Egypt post) between now and 29 June will go into a draw to win an ARC of Lynx to the Pharaoh.

Make That Man Mine

My latest release, Make That Man Mine comes out at Ellora’s Cave later today. Make That Man Mine is an erotic romance set in New Zealand and features a special shifter called a taniwha. To learn more about taniwhas check out my most recent Thursday Thirteen, which is all about the creatures.

Make That Man Mine

I interviewed George Taniwha, the owner and founder of George Taniwha & Sons, a private investigating company. He’s rather pleased with himself because he’s allocated a new case to Jack Sullivan. It’s a two-man case and Jack isn’t keen on the idea of a partner. He’s even less pleased when he learns his prospective partner is Emma Montrose, a rookie.

Here’s the interview:

Catherine Bybee invited me to visit her today. I’m over at her blog and giving away a download of Make That Man Mine. I hope to see you there!

A Different Kind of Shapeshifter

Thursday Thirteen

My book, Make That Man Mine comes out at Ellora’s Cave on 15 June. My story features a special shapeshifter called a taniwha. Most of you probably don’t know what a taniwha is, so my TT today is about taniwhas.

Thirteen Things about Taniwhas

1. A taniwha is a creature from Maori mythology. It lives in lakes, rivers or the sea. Legend says there’s a taniwha living at every bend of a river.

2. The best description I can come up with is a water dragon.

3. According to legend many looked like serpents, had wings and they ate people. Sometimes they liked to kidnap women and live with them, treating them like a wife.

4. Other stories say the taniwha are guardians who protect the tribe or iwi.

5. In 2002 work on a road in the Waikato region (south of Auckland, New Zealand) was halted because locals said a taniwha lived there. Public interest was high. Some cheered for the taniwha while others thought it was political correctness gone mad! This stretch of road has a high death rate and local Maoris have long blamed the taniwha for all the deaths.

6. The taniwha who killed, kidnapped and ate people needed to be destroyed. Enter the taniwha-slayer. These brave men lured the taniwha from his den, captured and killed them. They were considered big heroes.

7. Witi Ihimaera, the author of The Whale Rider, says that he has a kaitiaki (guardian) which is a taniwha. Her name is Hine Te Ariki and she lives in the Waipāoa River. The movie Whale Rider is amazing. If you haven’t seen it check out the link.

8. My upcoming release, Make That Man Mine features a shapeshifting taniwha called Jack Sullivan.

Make That Man Mine

9. Jack Sullivan works for a private investigation firm in Auckland, New Zealand. It’s called George Taniwha & Son. Guess what George and his son are?

10. Blurb: On her 25th birthday Emma Montrose decides it’s time to show bad boy investigator, Jack Sullivan she’s more than an efficient secretary. She’s a woman with needs, and she wants him.

Jack is a taniwha, a shifter, who requires women to satiate the sexual demands of the serpent within. Nothing more. Then work forces the reluctant Jack and ecstatic Emma undercover as a couple. Thrown together, pretence and reality blur generating hot sex laced with risk…

11. Of course, since this is an erotic romance, I added a twist…

George glanced at the calendar pinned on the wall then cast his attention back to Jack. “There’s a blue moon coming up. It might fall before the mission is completed.”

Jack filled in the blanks. The blue moon would erode his powers and make it difficult to remain in human form. Without constant sexual stimulation, he’d shift into a taniwha, the legendary monster from Maori mythology. Jack snorted at the thought of being trapped in taniwha form in the middle of a mission. It had happened to other shifters on George Taniwha’s staff but not to him. He imagined the pandemonium if a change occurred in the middle of the bustling resort. His lips curled in disdain.

Little did New Zealanders know, but the species taniwha survived and lived among them. Jack didn’t intend to be the first taniwha to make headlines in the New Zealand Herald. No way. No how. If he had to find a woman to keep the monster at bay, then that’s what he’d do.

12. Of course things don’t work exactly the way Jack plans. He’s partnered with Emma, and she is determined to get her hands on the man who has caught her eye. Little does she know about the beast Jack harbors. He’s not just grouch and growl, he’s bite as well!

13. Make That Man Mine is available for sale from Ellora’s Cave on 15 June. If you like your reading hot and would like to armchair travel to New Zealand to experience life with a different kind of shifter, this is your book!

Do you think you’d like a taniwha in your local lake or river? What are your favorite armchair travel destinations? Do you pick fiction or non-fiction books when you armchair travel?

Read a Feline Paranormal Romance

Thursday Thirteen

My latest release LETICIA’S LOVERS is out tomorrow. It’s part of my Middlemarch Mates series about a feline shapeshifter community in the South Island of New Zealand. I love both reading and writing feline shapeshifters. There’s something about a cat that’s graceful, mysterious and beautiful at the same time. I like them because they’re independent, confident and have a touch of arrogance about them.

In celebration of feline shifters: Thirteen Feline Shifter stories.

1. Nalini Singh’s Psy series. Nalini’s both a friend and a wonderful writer. The first book in her series is called SLAVE TO SENSATION. It’s a great read and very different and original from other paranormal stories available. My favorite in the series is CARESSED BY ICE. (mostly leopard but not all)

2. MERCURY’S WAR by Lora Leigh, one of the Breeds series. I really enjoyed this one. (lion)

3. SABER-TOOTH by Jordan Summers (tiger)

4. PRIMED TO POUNCE and JAGUAR’S RULE by TJ Michaels (jaguar)

5. HUNTING THE HUNTRESS by Ember Case (lion)

6. STRAY by Rachel Vincent. This is the first book in a were-cat series. (leopard)

7. SLAVE by Cheryl Brooks. This is the first book in a futuristic series with feline-like heroes.

8. MAGIC BITES by Ilona Andrews. This isn’t exactly a shapeshifter book but one of the male characters is a lion.

9. WILD RAIN by Christine Feehan. (leopard)

10. TIGER EYE by Marjorie Liu (tiger)

11. FERAL ATTRACTION by Marie Hart and Paige McKellan (lion/cougar)

12. Middlemarch Mates: SCARLET WOMAN, PEEPING TOM, STRAY CAT STRUT, ASSASSIN, CAT AND MOUSE, CAT BURGLAR by Shelley Munro. These are the first six books in my feline shapeshifter series. (leopard – mainly black/lion)

13. LETICIA’S LOVERS by Shelley Munro – out today from Ellora’s Cave (leopard/lion)

Do you like feline shifters? If so what do you enjoy about them? Is there a different paranormal creature that floats your boat? And if you prefer contemporary romance, that’s fine. Tell me what you’re reading because contemporary romance is my second favorite thing to read.

Book Trailer: Leticia’s Lovers

After reading Leah Braemel’s post on making a book trailer and seeing her new trailer last week, I decided to try making one of my own. Armed with Leah’s instructions, plus the instructions I’d saved a while ago from Brenda Coulter, I started on my book trailer journey.

I enjoyed making my trailer, although Leah was right when she said it was a huge time suck. It took me all of Saturday night plus most of Sunday to get as far as I have. It’s fairly basic and I haven’t experimented much with fading pictures out etc. That will come with my next attempt. One thing I knew for sure was that I shouldn’t make my trailer too long. As a viewer of trailers, my attention wanders after one and a half minutes. I decided I needed to make my trailer as short as I could.

There are some wonderful book trailers available for viewing on Youtube and some real stinkers. I think mine fits somewhere in the middle. I’m happy with my first attempt, and I’m sure that next time will be easier because I’ve learned so much. Trial by doing!

Do you like to make book trailers? Do you have any handy hints to share on making trailers? Readers, do you enjoy watching trailers or do you run a mile when you see authors promoting them? Are there particular things you like or dislike about trailers?

I’m blogging over at Access Romance on Monday 19th January. The subject? My recent trip to Tongariro National Park. The post goes live at 6.00am. I hope you’ll pop over and say hello.

Komodo Dragon, You say?

Warrior= My special guest today is Selena Illyria. She has an unusual shifter in her new release. I’ll let her tell you about her hero, Renato.

First I’d like to thank Shelley for allowing me to invade her blog yet again.

I know it’s not a usual shifter type. Most shifter are either cats, dragons, wolves, etc., but a komodo dragon? After I had finished Discovering Passion, the second book in the Vampiropolis series, I knew I wanted give Renato a story. At first I had thought Magda should be a phoenix, but scrapped that idea. I wanted something different, some unusual, something that I don’t think someone has done yet. I knew I wanted to do a dragon shifter but what kind? Which one?
