Immortals To Die For with JK Coi.

My special guest today is JK Coi who I met online a while ago. I enjoy visiting her blog and meeting her many guests, and then there’s her books…

JK writes a series about a very sexy group of Immortal warriors. Let’s go to the movies first before we chat with JK, and don’t forget, if you have any questions for JK ask them in the comments section.

Hi! First off, I want to thank Shelley for having me as a guest today. She’s got the best blog and even better shifter alpha heroes! (You’re very welcome, and thank you. Compliments are always welcome! – Shell)

I’m celebrating the release of the third book in my Immortal Series, Dark Immortal, and I’m very excited about it. It took me by surprise, you see. I hadn’t intended to write this book at all when I first started down this particular road.

When I started writing the series, I had a very clear picture of the characters and the roles they were going to play. Rhys is the hero of book one. He’s the eldest Immortal and a bit of a recluse. He didn’t take to this leadership thing so easily and he didn’t quite know how to deal with a sharp, determined woman like Amy who turned his life upside down from the first moment he saw her. Then there was Baron, a smartass, smartmouthed, ex-military sharpshooter who was all set to embrace his new life as an Immortal…that is until his past came back to haunt him in the form of the irresistible and forbidden Maxine. Ah…and then it was supposed to be Gideon’s turn. A man of science, he’d had his life planned out so perfectly. He wasn’t supposed to be dragged into a demon war, and he definitely wasn’t supposed to fail so miserably at it—now he can barely live with the consequences.

Just as I was finishing up Baron’s story and getting ready to start Gideon’s, one of the other Immortals stepped forward, not content to stay in his “supporting role”.

Alric. In the first two books, he is strong, centered, happy.

But his past was revealed to me; the torture, the darkness, the rage. After living so close to madness for so long, I needed to know how he had gotten past it to become the man he is now—and of course, the answer was Diana. She was his light.

So what would happen if that light were taken away? If darkness were to envelop him once more?

The story just had to be written.

J.K. Coi writes dark and edgy paranormal romance, where love is all consuming, the stakes are always high, and the immortals are to die for…

Book 3 of the Immortal Series, Dark Immortal, is available now…

Five years of happiness, erased in one vicious act of violence.

Diana freed Alric from his prison and the insanity of his own mind, offering him the kind of love only a fool would deny. Now she lies broken and comatose from a vampire attack, locked deep inside herself where he cannot reach her.

Awakening in a strange bed, Diana has no memory of how she got there. The huge, muscled man leaning over her is straight out of nightmares full of blood and pain. Married to him? It can’t be true…even if her body craves his touch, and the anguish in his eyes shatters something deep inside her.

Alric has no intention of giving up on the woman who never stopped fighting for him. His one hope is that time will heal her mind. But with a demon god poised to tip the balance of power, time is not on their side…

Don’t forget to pepper JK with questions. If you’d like to know anything about her books or writing process feel free to ask in the comments section.

Ghostly Tales

I thought I’d get in on the spooky fun and do my own version of Halloween. Today I’m talking about two ghostly tales I’ve read recently.

But first – I’m guest blogging with JK Coi today. My post is about afternoon tea, the Ritz in London and I have a recipe for Neenish Tarts, which is one of my childhood favorites. You can see my post here.

The first book I read was The Remains of the Dead by Wendy Roberts. It’s the first book in the Ghost Dusters Mystery series.

Sadie Novak owns Scene-2-Clean, a crime scene cleanup company. Wiping up after murders is spooky enough, but she can also see and talk to the ghosts of victims. While cleaning up after the murder-suicide of Trudy and Grant Toth, she meets a man. Her interest is piqued—enough to date him. The appearance of Trudy’s ghost also grabs Sadie’s interest and soon she’s after the real killer. One problem—someone wants her to stop.

I enjoyed this book very much. It’s a mystery rather than a romance. Sadie’s occupation is very different and fascinating, albeit a bit gruesome. I don’t think it would be on my list of jobs to investigate! The characters really grabbed hold of me, and I’m looking forward to reading another of Ms. Roberts’ books. Always a great sign.

The second book I read was a young adult one: The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong. This is also the start of a series. What can I say? I seem to be a series junkie.

Chloe Saunders has a gift. She can see ghosts—they’re attracted to her. She can also summon them because she has a talent. After Chloe sees a ghost at school and freaks out, her aunt and father put her in a home called Lyle House. It’s a home for disturbed kids but as Chloe learns there are some strange things going on there. Are they really being helped or are they being held prisoner?

I also enjoyed this book. Some of the questions aren’t answered and the book reads like a serial with part two to come. That said, I’ll read the next story to find out what happens to the kids now that they’re on the loose with their different magical powers.

And finally, I’m going to mention a story I’ve written. Curse of Brandon Lupinus has a very special ghost. The hero is a werewolf ghost who finds love, but is living under a curse. There’s no happiness in sight for him unless he can find a way to break the curse.

Curse of Brandon Lupinus is available as a download from Ellora’s Cave or in print as part of the Midnight Treat anthology.

Do you have a favorite ghostly tale? Have you read a good one recently?

Running update: I went for my first run today. Unfortunately, I left it quite late and Mr. Munro arrived home. He decided he was going to run with me and nothing I did or said shook him from his resolve! We walked/ran around the circuit we normally walk. At a fast walk it takes 30 minutes. Mr. Munro complained I ran too slow and helped me along with gentle pushs. It’s no secret I ran out of puff early and never got it back but I struggled gamely around our circuit. On arrival home I slumped on the couch before dragging my sweaty self off to the shower. An interesting aside – you seem to get runners high even if you walk/run. I was quite proud of myself.

A Hijack and Birthdays with JK Coi

Hi there! I’m so happy to be blogging here today for Shelley. Surprised, though. I mean, letting me hijack her blog while she’s away on vacation shows a lot of trust. I guess I shouldn’t haul out the paper airplanes and Silly String until I’m sure she won’t be stopping by *grin*.

So, it’s a special week for me. Yes, Book 2 in my Immortals series, Immortal Kiss is now available from Linden Bay Romance!…But that’s not all, because it also happens to be my birthday this week!

Everybody sing!

Photobucket

Okay, stop, stop. Ouch. No more singing.

I’m still trying to decide if I should rightly be excited when it comes to having another birthday. After all I’m not a middle schooler who has a pool party to look forward to, or a fresh-faced sweet sixteen hoping for a brand new car from mom and dad (um, I better call about that one, it could still happen, right?)

The truth is I do love the idea of having a birthday. Sure, a lot of it has to do with getting a really great gift, even if I’ve had to send not-so-subtle email hints to my husband complete with photos and helpful html links to La Perla’s webpage for a month in advance. But it’s more than presents and cake (mmm…cake). It’s also an excuse for my family to tear me out of the computer chair to socialize and have some fun, and it’s about that awesome feeling of accomplishment when I look back on the last year. This year has brought so much to me that I feel overwhelmed and awed by it all.

I guess if I were immortal, eventually the days and years would start to run together and a birthday would seem more like a curse than a reason for celebration…and since I just happen to know a few Immortals who like to whisper in my ear, I’m sure that’s the case.

How about everyone else? Do you have a love/hate relationship with that one day of the year? Are you exactly where you thought you’d be when you think about your age, or had you thought you would have accomplished more…done things differently?

Finally, before I go, of course I’m going to leave you with some info about me, and a little teaser of Immortal Kiss! Pick up a copy today, and find out just why these are Immortals to die for!

Evil lurks in the darkest of shadows, but a band of warriors stands ready to defend humanity against hell’s own monsters—Immortal men hand-picked by destiny and taken out of time hold the fate of the world in their hands.

Who was this man that held her in his arms and calmly offered to feed her with his own blood to quench her hunger? Why hadn’t he run from her in terror, or showed any surprise at her crazed, incoherent claims?

Just what exactly had he been doing with his life since he’d been gone from hers, that none of this seemed to faze him?

Baron leaned in close and brushed his lips against her mouth. Not even a real kiss, it was light and sweet, so completely not what she would have expected from him. Actually, she hadn’t thought to feel his mouth on hers ever again, and if asked, Max would have said that she didn’t want it.

“Do it Max,” he urged. Turning his face to the side, he bared his neck to her in blatant invitation.

How could she do this? How could she not?

She didn’t have the strength to withstand the insistent demand of the hunger. The cravings were impossible to resist any longer.

With a low moan her mouth descended to his neck.

At first she simply licked his skin, savoring the salty male taste of him and feeling the steady pounding of his pulse under her tongue. But then he groaned and tightened his arms around her, forcing a more intimate embrace, forcing Max to recognize just how much the old Baron had really changed.

His body was rock solid against hers, from the awesomely defined biceps twitching under her fingertips, the muscled thighs that acted as a cushion for her to sit upon, to the hard length that stretched his loose-fitting workout pants and pressed into her belly.

She moved closer, pressing her suddenly aching breasts closer against the hard wall of his chest. Her nipples tightened and a shock of pure pleasure shot through her to the wet core between her thighs.

Oh.

Oh no.

She didn’t want this, couldn’t want this. Not with him. It was too embarrassing. But her traitorous body didn’t seem to care. It wanted. It desired. It hungered.
