Meet Todd Blakely from Silent Vows & His Author, Catherine Bybee

I’m swapping blogs today with author friend Catherine Bybee. Catherine writes awesome time travel romances and quite a few of them feature handsome and brawny Highlanders. Her latest release is Silent Vows, and you can meet her hero, Todd Blakely below. Come on. Say hello. Ask him a question or two…and when you’re finished pop over to Catherine’s blog to say hello to Lucien.

Silent VowsName: Todd Blakely

Profession: Anaheim Police Officer

Age: Late twenties

Appearance: Tall, about six two. Solid build with arms that should be yielding a sword and not a 9-millimeter. His strong jaw and piercing eyes bring on the confessions of many.

First Impressions of Myra: Liar! Plain and simple. He believes in amnesic women popping out of nowhere about as much as he believes that the moon is made of cheese. Yet how is it that when he gazes into the big doe eyes of Jane Doe he isn’t able to look away?

First Problem: Everything Myra says is a lie. Her association with a missing woman places her on a suspect list. Damn if he can’t turn her in. He should turn her in.

Second Problem: Someone is watching them, and Myra is terrified. When she reveals whom she is running from, Todd is forced to believe everything she’s told him.

Third Problem: Myra proves she isn’t a liar, but now she’s gone.

Todd’s thoughts

Todd sat on the cold, hard ground. His eyes were dry and refused to blink. Jesus, she was gone. She was really gone.

The only thing that remained to remind him she had been there was a black circle where fire had scorched the earth, evidence from the circle of stones that tossed them all from one time to another.

If he hadn’t seen it, he wouldn’t have believed it possible. Even now, sitting alone in the dark with mist starting to rain from the cloudy skies, he couldn’t wrap his mind around the facts.

“Damn. What did I do?”

Silent Vow’s Blurb:

Myra, a medieval virgin druidess, flees five hundred years into the future to escape death at the hands of a cursed witch and lands in the arms of a handsome but cynical twenty-first century cop.

Officer Todd Blakely knows Myra is hiding something, but can’t resist her innocent charms. Destiny throws them both into a world of intrigue and mysticism. Can Todd be the true white knight she needs? Or will magic and the winds of time tear them apart?

Excerpt:

“I want you,” he whispered in her hair, not willing to break their contact.

She stiffened when his words registered. “I don’t—”

“You want the same thing, Myra. Don’t try and deny it.”

“I don’t know what I want. I’ve not ever…” She didn’t finish her sentence.

“Not ever what?”

“No one has ever kissed me the way you do. Let alone anything more.”

A virgin? Was that even possible? “You mean you’ve never…?”

“Never.” She lowered her head and removed her hands from his shoulders.

“Hey.” He caught her gaze. “It’s nothing to be embarrassed about.” He kissed her again, briefly, then placed a protective arm over her shoulders and walked her home. “So are the men in Scotland blind?”

She laughed. “Nay.”

“What then?”

“My father is very protective.”

“Does your father know you’re here?”

“Much to his dismay, but we had no choice.”

Interesting, a protective father who sent his daughter away to a different country without any money. Something wasn’t lining up.

They were within a block of his home when Myra stiffened, and all color washed from her face. She stopped and spun in a slow circle.

“What is it?”

“Someone is watching us.”

“Some of the neighbors are busybodies.”

“No, Todd. The one who watches wants more than to gossip.”

Now the hair on his neck stood on end.

A Little Bit of Scotland…

Kilt Worthy with Catherine Bybee

My special guest today is Catherine Bybee who is celebrating the release of her book Kilt Worthy. It’s out today! Grab a glass of champagne from one of the waiters wearing a kilt and get comfortable while Catherine and I chat about Kilt Worthy…

Kilt WorthyCongratulations on the release of Kilt Worthy, Catherine. It’s lovely to have you visit today. Tell us a little about yourself and your new release.

Thanks for having me, Shelley. I can’t tell you what a thrill it is for me to be here. Let’s see, a little about me. Okay, I’m a wife a mother and a lover of all things romance. I say that a lot because it really does define me. Oh, and I’m also a ER nurse. Which means I’m very cynical and very little riles me. In fact, my children seldom run to me whining about anything unless blood is involved… a lot of blood. LOL

Kilt Worthy is my debut release, but certainly not the first thing I’ve written. In fact, it was one of the last books I subbed to date. But because this “Sexy lil’ romp” is just that, little, it was quick to go to contract. Kilt Worthy’s trailer was voted Best Trailer for the month of June with You Gotta Read Reviews first ever contest. So yeah me!!!

Here is the blurb:

Peering at the world from behind her camera lens, “Plain Jane” Parker is stunned to see a handsome hunk wearing a kilt as he confidently strolls down a busy Seattle street. Her dormant libido roars to life even before their eyes meet. Aroused and intrigued, she tosses aside her usual caution and follows when Logan MacLaren beckons for a delightfully sinful one-night stand.

Logan is an exceptionally talented lover, wielding the abundant sword he sports beneath his plaid to deliver unparalleled pleasures. He reminds her to trust her instincts after reality proves they’re a more perfect fit than either imagined.

Then Logan drops his bombshell: He’s traveled through time to find her and wants her to stay with him forever…in medieval Scotland. Did Jane just have the most erotic sex of her life with a delusional crazy man, or is it truly possible for her one-night stand to last forever?

Where did the idea for Kilt Worthy come from?

A friend of mine sent me a testosterone charged kilted picture that sparked an opening paragraph. Said paragraph grew and when I looked up all 40 pages were written. Sometimes a picture does say a thousand words. In this case 10,000 words. LoL

Your heroine is a plain Jane. How has this shaped her character?

Poor Jane has a bit of a complex. Her ex-boyfriend did a number on her confidence level with the opposite sex… so when Logan crosses her path she’s a bit taken back by his attraction. She really believes that she isn’t ‘Kilt Worthy’.

Time travel is an interesting genre. Can you tell us how your hero travels to present day Seattle and what made you choose this method of travel?

This question is a bit hard to explain. In this ‘lil romp, Logan’s ability to travel is somewhat in his blood. There are no time machines or spells moving him in and out of time. Because this erotic piece is meant to be pure fantasy, I thought it best to keep his way of time travel out of the forefront of the story. Now… in December I have a full-length time travel, Binding Vows, where the entire concept of how, why and when is a major part of the plot.

Your hero is Scottish and comes from the medieval period. Where exactly does he live and what does his home look like?

Turrets, rolling hills and maids. Not to mention sword-carrying manly-men.

What does a Scottish man wear under his kilt?

The first thing that comes to mind with this question is NOTHING… However, that might tick off men with something… so I’ll answer this with; EVERYTHING.

What is your best tip for an aspiring author seeking publication?

NEVER GIVE UP!

What is your best marketing tip for published authors?

You’re competing for the same book dollars as thousands of authors out there so be sure your name is on peoples lips. A friend told me once that your name has to sneak its way in front of a reader seven times before they’ll purchase your book. Just think of your own purchases to see if this is true. So get your name out there. Social Networks. Blogs. Loops. Chat Rooms. I’ve video blogged about this over and over so feel free to check them out on my you tube page.

Now that Kilt Worthy has hit the buy page, I’ll find out if all my efforts pan out. The bottom line tip is this… Marketing is the author’s responsibility and it is never too soon to get your name out there. Even before you’ve sold your first book so start now!

Where can we find you on the web?

I’m happy to say that if you googled Catherine Bybee you’ll find me everywhere.
I do have a website, myspace, blog, twitter, facebook and not one but two publishers.

And where can we purchase Kilt Worthy?

You can pick up Kilt Worthy at The Wild Rose Press, and for only two bucks. So please pick up a copy and let me know what you think. I look forward to hearing from readers. E-mail me with your review at catherinebybee@catherinebybee.com

CONTEST: Now… if you want to win free pdf download of Kilt Worthy, you can enter a chance to win by leaving a comment here on Shelley’s blog and sign up to receive my newsletter. Step on over to my website to sign up on my contest page and I’ll be picking a name at random by August 11th.
