What is your Favorite Room?

Yesterday I watched a program called Luxury House in the Sun. This is a reality-type show where a wealthy couple are searching for a holiday home or a permanent residence in exotic climes.

House - Two Storey    House - Bungalow

The house hunter—a woman in her early twenties with a rich football-playing fiancé—said she’d know what she wanted when she saw it, but as the search continued we discovered she really wanted a large outdoor entertainment area with a pool and the property needed to be close or on the outskirts of a town (near to restaurants) with a modern open-plan interior.

House

Her hunt for the perfect home made me think about what was important to me in a house. This is what I came up with:

1. A large kitchen with a breakfast bar. It needs to be big enough for family and guests to get together for casual dining. A kitchen with enough room for me to cook at the same time as hubby.

2. A garden area for puppy to run around. The house needs to be in a location with good walking/biking opportunities and public transport.

3. An open plan style.

So what is important to you in your dream home?

  1. The bedrooms
  2. The kitchen
  3. The lounge
  4. The location
  5. The outdoor space
  6. The bathroom
  7. An office
  8. Something else

What are your must-haves? What is your favorite room in your existing home?

Inside my house, I love the keeping room. A small fireside room off the kitchen, but I have dreams of a screened in back deck. I love the outdoors, but I can’t write outside because of the mosquitoes.

Why is it called a keeping room? It’s not a term I’m familiar with.

When we were house-hunting, the land was as important as the house. We wanted a nice mix of trees and pasture.

The most important room in my house has to be the kitchen. I’m not fond of cooking, but this kitchen makes it almost painless. I love it.

The land is something you can’t change, so it needs to fit precise specifications. The house can always be renovated if necessary.

To me it is my office, the place I create and spend most time in. I think as long as my hope feels like home and I’m with the ones I love I am happy.

Nodding. People do make the home, don’t they?

I’ve got all kinds of dreams for what I’d like my house to be like, but I always end up in these houses built before my grandmother was born.

LOL – old homes tend to be more spacious with high ceilings though. An old Victorian or something like that can be amazing.

We live in an apartment and there are some must have’s here. We plan on moving in a few months because my daughter is going to have a baby and we need more room. But while looking at apartment’s I want a big kitchen, large bathroom and enough cabinets and closets to store all my stuff.

Storage is important. A lot of more modern places skimp on storage.

Location tends to be the most important for me right now. Chipmunk is in school and certain locations can determine the school she attends. Interestingly, my tastes have always led me to areas where the schools are pretty good, even if the neighborhood or the apartment home ranked as a decent-to-nice.

A good school and a safe area for children are a must, I think. We have a brand new school near us. No kids, but there’s a school :)

For me it would be the kitchen, living room and bathroom in that order:) hehe

It seems as if most of us are interested in the kitchen :)

I must have a screened in porch. I also want a closet with a cat door in it strictly for litter pans. A bedroom with a regular closet, a walk in closet, master bath and an alcove to use as a study.
