Go Fly A Kite!

The weekend just gone is the first that hubby hasn’t had to work for a while. We packed up our kites and took them out to the farm with us on Saturday. It was a gorgeous day, but unfortunately the wind didn’t cooperate. My kite was purchased in China, and it’s my very first kite. It’s really a series of small, light kites tied together to make a long line of kites. Since it’s light I managed to get it up in the air. I have to say it was fun and the kid in me enjoyed it very much. I can’t wait for a suitably windy day to go kite flying again.

My husband has a box kite, which is a bit heavier, and it didn’t fly as well. We needed a bit more puff in the wind to keep it in the air. Still, it was fun.

And in sale news, I’ve sold a story called Good Vibrations to Ellora’s Cave. Good Vibrations is the third story in my Fancy Free series.

Do you have any kite flying stories? Did you make and fly kites as a kid?

I can never get a kite high in the air for my boys. It’s so frustrating.

CONGRATULATIONS on the sale of your story to Ellora’s Cave!!!!!!

Thanks, Ciara. I’d never tried flying a kite before. I think if the wind had been a little stronger I would have done better. I’m itching to try again. :)

Not big on being in the middle of windiness so not much kite flying for me.

But Congrats to you on your sale! Awesome!

LOL Angela. You wouldn’t like living near us. Our penisula is a very windy place, and sometimes it’s plain hard work to ride a bike around.

Huge congrats on the sale. Oh I don’t remember the last time I flew a kite. I think I was a little girl.

I must still be a little girl at heart. My father was a bit bemused. He told us we were acting like kids :)

I grew up in the inner city of Chicago so we didn’t have any open spaces.

It looks like fun though. I love the art and engineering of the more complex kites.

Maria, some of the kites we saw in China were beautiful. Don’t they have kite fighting in Asia somewhere? I need to go and google.

Congratulations on the sale! That’s wonderful news.

I had a kite when I was a kid and we made kites as kids in school as a class project. It was fun to do as long as you had enough string and didn’t let go..lol Chasing after a ball of bouncing string isn’t as much fun..

Thanks, Mary. It’s good to have my first sale of the year under my belt.

Kites sound like an awesome school project. I can see how running after balls of string wouldn’t be fun though :)

It’s been a long time since I personally have flown a kite, but there’s just something about watching them dance along the breeze, isn’t there?

Many years back, we had a local event that only lasted a few years called Kites on Ice. Yes, kite flying in winter. Sounds cold, but it was actually a lot of fun to look at the different kites, and watch the demonstrations–provided you bundled up right! ;-)

As an animal lover, I despise to admit that I like puppies simply a little greater than kittens. They’re just so lovable and affectionate. I’m a cat fan, but puppies merely manage to be more engaging. If they just weren’t so much difficulty I would certainly follow a puppy right now.
