YA Post-Apocalyptic Cover Reveal from Ciara Knight!

I’m delighted to participate in Ciara Knight’s cover reveal for her upcoming young adult post-apocalyptic release, WEIGHTED.

Weighted is a prequel novelette to The Neumarian Chronicles, and will be released August 2012. Book I, Escapement, will be released in 2013.

Here’s the blurb:

The Great War of 2185 is over, but my nightmare has just begun. I am being held captive in the Queen’s ship awaiting interrogation. My only possible ally is the princess, but I’m unsure if she is really my friend or a trap set by the Queen to fool me into sharing the secret of my gift. A gift I keep hidden even from myself.  It swirls inside my body begging for release, but it is the one thing the Queen can never discover. Will I have the strength to keep the secret? I’ll know the answer soon. If the stories are true about the interrogators, I’ll either be dead or a traitor to my people by morning.

And here’s the cover. Isn’t it gorgeous?

I asked Ciara why she thought young adult stories were becoming so popular, not only with young readers but with adults as well. What is the appeal?

This is what she said:

IMHO, there are several reasons why the young adult genre is so popular. First, I think many people are so busy it is difficult for them to devote a lot of time to read, so the shorter reads young adult novels offer works well with their overwhelming schedules. Second, life is so complicated, and although the story lines of YA can be full of twists and turns, for the most part they are easier reads. This gives someone a chance to escape without a lot of extra work to get there. Lastly, I think situations in adolescence is something we can all relate to. That first kiss, first love, first heartbreak.

I’m a SAHM, so I’m immersed in that culture of women who are die hard Twilight Fans. They are always looking for that next great book that can transport them from their over scheduled, predictable existence into an alternate world where love, romance, and adventure still exist. Of course, right now that seems to be an adult book, Fifty Shades of Grey. Smile

Thanks, Ciara. I must admit that I’m really enjoying the young adult genre at present. I like the diverse worlds and interesting storylines I’m finding, some of which are very original and definitely entertaining.

What do you think of Ciara’s Weighted cover? Why do you think the young adult genre has become so popular?
