Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
~ Grab your current read
~ Open to a random page
~ Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
~ BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
~ Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
I’ve been reading a lot of young adult fiction this year and have just started reading Whisper of Memory by Brinda Berry. This is book two in the Whispering Woods series. The first book in the series is called The Waiting Booth.
The glint of the metallic blade almost blinded me before I ducked to avoid losing my head. Most dimensional travelers carried something quite a bit smaller.
Location 33, Whisper of Memory
Blurb:
Weapons training and winter formals… a deadly combination
All Mia ever wanted was to fit in at Whispering Woods High. But being a portal-finder who dates a guy from another dimension sort of makes it hard. Mia’s brother disappeared over a year ago, and now agents from the IIA are policing people’s movements through dimensions. She’d trusted Dr. Bleeker from the local university when he’d told her the IIA were the bad guys. But even a girl with an extraordinary ability to sense things can make mistakes.
Now two people are dead, and as a portal gatekeeper for the IIA, Mia needs to find Dr. Bleeker before he hurts anyone else. And her boyfriend Regulus, an Agent for the IIA, carries secrets of his own. Between learning about weaponry, finding the perfect dress for the winter formal, and catching bad guys, who has time to fit in?

Interesting teaser. You mentioned reading a lot of YA this year, perhaps not as much in recent years. What’s put you on this kick?

John,
I’ve been finding some fresh and imaginative titles to read in the YA genre while the adult paranormal titles I’d been reading seemed to feel like the same ideas redone over and over.

This sounds like a fun book with plenty of stuff going on! Thanks for posting the synopsis along with your teaser. (BTW, if you liked this, you might enjoy THE RISE AND FALL OF BIBI KARSTAD, a YA novel by Judy Dearborn Nill.)
