Teaser Tuesday: The Sergeant’s Lady

Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

~ Grab your current read
~ Open to a random page
~ Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
~BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
~ Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My teaser today comes from another historical romance, one I’ve just started reading called The Sergeant’s Lady by Susanna Fraser.

“He’s dead?”

“Of course he is. Hard to survive a knife to the throat, ain’t it?”

The Sergeant's LadyHighborn Anna Arrington has been “following the drum,” obeying the wishes of her cold, controlling cavalry officer husband. When he dies, all she wants is to leave life with Wellington’s army in Spain behind her and go home to her family’s castle in Scotland.

Sergeant Will Atkins ran away from home to join the army in a fit of boyish enthusiasm. He is a natural born soldier, popular with officers and men alike, uncommonly brave and chivalrous, and educated and well-read despite his common birth.

As Anna journeys home with a convoy of wounded soldiers, she forms an unlikely friendship with Will. When the convoy is ambushed and their fellow soldiers captured, they become fugitives—together. The attraction between them is strong—but even if they can escape the threat of death at the hands of the French, is love strong enough to bridge the gap between a viscount’s daughter and an innkeeper’s son?

Purchase The Sergeant’s Lady from Carina Press or at Amazon Kindle

You know, this doesn’t look like it’d be my type of book, but I have to admit…that line is hilarious! Thanks for sharing!

Interesting excerpt Shelley, but I don’t think it would be my kind of book either. I’m not much into books with active military service in them. It makes me cry.

Natalie – It made me smile too.

Becky – I can understand that. We all have certain themes that don’t work for us.

I’ve heard a lot about this author today. I do like a good historical romance.

My teaser this week is quite action packed. It’s from Frostbitten by Kelly Armstrong.

My reading list is getting so long. I’ll have lots to choose from once I have finished my self-imposed writing commitment.

Yes, I suppose that would be difficult to survive, wouldn’t it? Great teaser. Sounds like a good historical!

    That’s definitely making a point!

The books you choose always have such good covers.
The other day, I remember seeing a comment about how one misses out on great covers/colors with e-books, and this book proves that wrong!

Marg, Susanna has received some excellent reviews for this book.

Lisa – it does have a beautiful cover, doesn’t it?

Nessa – I hear you. My reading time is limited these days because I’m trying to complete a book.

Lillie – the Carina Press covers are really lovely. I don’t think I’ve seen a single one I haven’t liked.

Chrissie – a knife to the throat is rather final.
