Hubby and I have a love-hate relationship with Ava, the stern taskmaster on our new Your Shape Wii. She barks out orders and tells us when our legs or arms are out of position. I often hear hubby cursing her. Along with orders, she dispenses health tips. One of her recent tips was to remove the icing (frosting) from a piece of cake and discard. This will mean fewer calories consumed.
Now I don’t know about you, but I think the icing is the best part of a cake. It’s the bit I enjoy most of all. I savor each mouthful. The thought of lopping it off and throwing it away… It’s just plain wrong! I doubt I could bring myself to do it. I think I’d rather forego the entire piece of cake. That would be less painful for me.
My favorite cake is carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Yum! There is no way I would part with either the cake or the icing.
Do you agree with Ava or do you side with me? For those of you who enjoy the odd slice of cake, which sort is your favorite?

I agree with you. The frosting is the best part. You know how I combat the icing situation, CHEESECAKE. I love cheesecake and technically it doesn’t have icing. So take that Ava.

Cheesecake, no contest. ha ha! There’s a tiny little coffee shop near me that makes caramel, chocolate chip cheesecake once in awhile, about once every 2 months (I’ve complained for them to make it more often, but so far they haven’t listened.) It’s wonderful!

Hey, I’ll lop off the icing, sure.
And… throw the rest of the cake away. :D

I agree with Susan. No icing, no cake!

If I couldn’t have the entire cake I wouldn’t have it at all. It wouldn’t be a cake without the frosting. So whats a few calories when it comes to a moment of indulgence. lol. :)

Hmm, first comment didn’t post. Trying again…
I’m not much for cake either, though if I’m starving and it’s chocolate, I might be persuaded.

I can’t imagine tasting a cupcake or a slice of cake without icing. Doesn’t sound right. Too dry.
On the other hand, though, I enjoy (fudgy, not cake-like) brownies without the icing. Yes, it would taste better WITH the icing, but that’s how I compromise. So sorry….

I have to say that I love red velvet cake so much.
And about Ava, don’t let her get you down!

A lemon cupcake is the best…..and smaller than cake. Enjoy with frosting, once and awhile. Heck you are working out with the Ava. So go for it with no guilt.

Oh please like I’d ever scrape the icing off. It is absolutely the best part! And I especially love cupcakes. When I eat one, I don’t feel as guilty as I would eating a big chunk of cake.

If you have just got the cake out of the oven then I prefer it without the frosting. But once the frosting has been put on the cake you have to eat it with the frosting on it. The cake just doesn’t taste right if you take the frosting off of it.

Linda and Nancy – you know I’ve always thought of cheesecake as a dessert, but you’re right. It says it is a cake right in the name.

Susan and Jaime – exactly. I’d rather not eat cake at all.
Suzanne – yes. That mean Ava is spoiling everything for me. And she’s such a nag!!

Laney – I do like muffins so I could substitute those quite easily. Blueberry muffins are yummy as long as they have blueberries inside them. (the topic of a different post)

I’ve always been told I’m strange and I guess this proves it ebcause I actually don’t like frosting, never have. I always scrape off the frosting and leave it on the plate and just eat the cake.
Now If I’m making cupcakes, I’ll just leave a few unfrosted for myself. lol
I’ve made homemade butter cream frosting, cream cheese frosting and I still don’t like either of those.
There is one frosting that’s technically not really a frosting, it’s whip cream frosting and I do love that. It doesn’t have the same thinkness and sweetness as butter cream frosting does.
My favorite cake is either spice cake or red velvet cake.

I’m not actually much of a cake person, I’ve discovered. It’s too rich for me – if I can’t avoid having cake for ceremony’s sake, I always ditch the frosting.
I know…weird…

I could do it for those store-made cakes because I don’t like the icing they use, but I actually make most of my cakes myself and I make AWESOME icing.
