Soldier of Fortune Tour & Shopaholic

Soldier of Fortune

I’m blogging at My Foolish Wisdom today with Soldier of Fortune. I’m talking about Occupations in Romance, and I’m doing a giveaway. Here’s the link to My Foolish Wisdom.

Last week I watched a reality-type show on the Living Channel called Shopping is My Life. Each show features a shopping addict and two experts give them advice so they can get their habit under control. They mentioned some interesting statistics about shopping.

The average person used to purchase 19 items of clothing per year.
The average person now purchases 34 items of clothing per year.
The featured shopping addict purchased 400 plus items of clothing per year.

My sister really enjoys the Sophie Kinsella Shopaholic series and has suggested I read them. I haven’t seen the movie either. Maybe one day soon. It’s on my list, but from what I hear the heroine should probably submit themselves to the Shopping is My Life experts.

I’ve had a rough count, and I think I’ve purchased 15 items of clothing and footwear this year. It’s been a busy year shopping for me this year. Last year it would have been well under 10 items. I can’t imagine 400 items. That’s a lot of shopping!

How many items of clothing have you purchased this year? Have you read any of Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic series? Have you seen the movie? If so, what did you think?

I wonder if shopping appeals to our gather genes?

I’m not much of a shopper myself.

    Thanksgiving MeMe

I haven’t read the series. I’m not a big shopper. It’s sad, but I prefer to purchase gifts, etc online and stay in. =)

I haven’t read the series, and I hate shopping! After reading Nessa’s and Jaime’s comments, I don’t feel so alone, LOL. I know most women love to shop. The last items of clothing I bought were actually sexy lingerie for hubby’s and my trip to Jamaica next week

Yes, too much shopping and buying– spending money– even if I had lots of it to blow, I don’t think I’d buy tons of clothes with it!
I may have bought 7 or 8 items this year–socks, undies, maybe a new t-shirt– but only because I needed those items! If I could spend I would replenish my dance wear! I ‘m way not a material girl, lol

    400?!? What the…

I bought a new-to-me winter coat (I’m a second-hand clothing buyer) and a pair of sneakers. I’m pretty sure that’s been it for me this year.

Nessa – maybe it’s the frustrated hunter/gatherer in us all. We no longer go out hunting so we shop instead!

Jaime – online shopping is so easy! I’m a great believer in easy.

Helen – sexy lingerie sounds like a great purchase to me. Have fun in Jamaica.

Kaye – some dancewear is quite expensive, isn’t it? I know it is in the ballroom dancing department!

Teresa – my sister loves the books, and we usually enjoy the same things. I’ve seen the shorts for the movie and it looks like a hoot.

Okay, I have to admit it, I haven’t bought any clothing this year. Or shoes. But if you ask me about books that would be another story. I haven’t read the books or saw the movie. Since I’m not much of a shopper I don’t know if I would enjoy them.

I don’t recall buying much for myself this year–a couple things for the husband or kids… I’m not much of a shopper, unless it’s for books!!!

I haven’t read the shopaholic series but did enjoy the movie. What’s not to love about Isla Fisher and Hugh Dancy!

I did read Kinsella’s Remember Me and was highly entertained. She’s got a Bridget-Jonesy kind of voice. Tres amusing :)

I hate shopping and I don’t like stories about shopping. ;) Online shopping has been a godsend for me! Hmm, I bought a sweater and candy cane earrings on Saturday…I do like my holiday-themed jewelry, though.
