Warmth

In Auckland we have what they call a sub-tropical climate. It doesn’t get very cold as a rule, never going below zero. We do get a lot of rain, but I don’t mind that. It keeps everything green and lush and well…sub-tropical in appearance.

This winter I’ve been feeling the cold. It’s not as if I don’t have padding. I do, hence the suffering through Wii and the perky personal trainer. But the padding isn’t enough to keep warm, and I don’t like the cold. It’s cold right now and I’m huddled in a blanket. I’d like another hot shower, but I’m in danger of turning into a prune…

What are your favorite ways to keep warm?

Well, besides the obvious… I love blankets, especially afghans my Mom makes. I also dress in layers, and borrow my hubs wool socks that are big and ugly. I’m not a coffee drinker *gasp*, but I do love hot cider and that warms the insides.

    Stay warm!

Well, if you have padding, its well hidden in the pictures you’ve had on line:)
I like to sit in front of the fireplace and huddle under blankies:)

I love cozying up in bed with lots of blankets. In the winter I have the sheets, a comfortor and a duvet on the bed. With happy curled around me too, you couldn’t ask for more warmth.

Wool socks, my friend. I’m finding that with each winter, keeping my tootsies warm keeps the rest of me warm. And a good pair of SmartWool feel LUSCIOUS.

I am one of those people who have icy cold hands on a hot day. I can’t stay warm for anything! However, I have found that going for a brisk walk helps me a lot! My little dog loves it and I have the added bonus of burning those unwanted writers calories!

Lots of blankets and a warm cup of tea help…

Fleece. I know it looks all ratty and like sweats (OK, maybe that’s just mine!) but I love the coziness. Baking, when I have the energy for it–warms up the kitchen AND there’s something good to eat! Hot drinks–I admit I love that horrible fake-o apple cider mix :) A good down comforter. And although we’re trying to conserve and all that, I love hot showers and cranking the heat. Love standing on the heat vent with the warm air circulating :)

I have my favorite blanket that I snuggle under. Of course, right now we’re having summer and today it was almost 100.

    Hi Shelly,
Cuddling in bed works wonders. lol… but I do love my electric blanket at night. It’s so nice slipping into a warm as toast bed.

During the day, well, I hate those cold winds so I avoid them as much as possible.
Most of winter I pray for summer. lol…

Debra – yes, layers are good. I’m currently very well layered and have my feet garbed in thick socks.

Sandra – I have to agree about fires being wonderful. I love watching the flames and the scent of wood burning. Unfortunately, we don’t have a fire place. The gas heater isn’t quite as mesmerizing.

JK – Hubby and I like hot water bottles to take the initial chill off the bed. Cuddling is good because hubby seems to generate a lot of heat.

Susan – there is nothing worse than cold feet. I love wool socks, although keeping them safe from hubby is another story. I swear the man lives to steal my socks.

Colleen – I’ve done the exercise thing today. It’s not always easy at the moment because we’re getting a lot of rain. I like getting out in the fresh air when I can though.

Savannah – I love a cup of tea to warm up. Hubby usually brings me one first thing in the morning. It sort of makes up for the sock stealing.

Fedora – I have some fleece vests that I use in my layering process. I’ve worn them so much this winter.

Lucinda – I could do with some of your heat. I don’t mind the heat as much. Somehow, our house seems to cope with the heat.

Suzanne – my mil swears by her electric blanket, but I’ve never been a big fan of them. I always forget to turn them off and wake up in a hot sweat.

I totally agree with Fedora. When I put my fleece robe over my nighty, it is like a heat wave for me. Like Colleen, I am cold all year long. No hot flashes for me, surprisingly enough, but when I put that robe on and tie it up with the collar up my neck, man oh man, it is similar to a hot flash, as I just roast! My doggie slippers don’t hurt the image, either! Before I got the robe, I’d often snuggle back into bed to warm up (but it would take awhile), plus I tend to get tired more easily when I’m cold. A hot bath or shower does wonders, but only in the short term for me. Good luck!
