Lynx to the Pharaoh, my next release is coming out on 1 July. I thought I’d celebrate and invite you all to join me on a virtual trip to Egypt. Everyone who joins me on my journey (i.e. posts a comment on an Egypt post) between now and 29 June will go into a draw to win an ARC of Lynx to the Pharaoh.
So, pack your bags and get ready to choose your camel for your trek to Patria Oasis in Egypt.
Now given you’re traveling via camel, what are three things you absolutely must take with you to Patria Oasis?

If all the essentials are provided like food, water, etc., I would have to say sunscreen (I’m way to pale for the desert.), a recorder of some kind (to record the sounds of the desert), and last but not least my TBR pile. Have a great day.
by Roberta Harwell June 23rd, 2009 at 5:43 amIThis is soo my dream trip! I have to take my Ipod, a camera and sunscreen!
by Voronda June 23rd, 2009 at 6:49 amMy antihistamine (I tested positive for allergy to camel hair!), my asthma puffers and my camera.
by Julia Smith June 23rd, 2009 at 8:48 amEgypt is on my “Bucket List” However, with the state of our world politics I have to admit I’m fearfull of going in person. LOL
by Catherine Bybee June 23rd, 2009 at 9:37 amOoh! I’d definitely love to visit Egypt! OK, top three must haves–camera, well-designed sun-blocking cover-up, and like Roberta, at least some portion of my TBR ;) Maybe on a Kindle in a sand-proof case…
by Fedora June 23rd, 2009 at 10:49 amIf it were me, I’d take my camera, my sunglasses to cut the glare and a supply of wet-wipes!
Charlotte Webster, my heroine is taking a hat (although she already has a few freckles that lemon juice just won’t shift!) her drawing supplies and an adventurous attitude.
by Shelley Munro June 23rd, 2009 at 3:13 pmCatherine – when we went to Egypt there were policemen with guns everywhere, especially in areas where tourists went. And we had to take a guard with a gun with us on our bus and during the boat ride down the Nile. The guards looked so young I wondered if they even knew how to use the guns. Luckily, we didn’t need to find that out!
by Shelley Munro June 23rd, 2009 at 3:15 pmJulia – sorry to hear you’re allergic to camels. we’ll make this trip short!
by Shelley Munro June 23rd, 2009 at 3:15 pmI need to know where we’re starting from. If from Alexandria, I’d like a boat to sail to Alexandria and food to sustain me during the trip.

Road trip…er I mean Camel Trip. I would take industrial strength sunscreen (I’m so white I just might glow in the dark), sun glasses, and my SLR camera. I thought about just asking one of you to download and share but I LOVE taking pictures.
by Brandy W June 23rd, 2009 at 4:52 pmI have very fair skin so i’d deffinitely take sunscreen and my big old ugly green hat HA!HA! I would enjoy a camel ride.that sounds fun. I think I’ll stick with my fantasies instead of going to Egypt alot safer in the USA. Glad you made it back safe,Shelley!!!
by Connie B June 23rd, 2009 at 9:11 pmI’ve always wanted to visit Egypt, see the pyramids and visit Alexandria… sigh… not sure about the camel rides though!!! I’d definitely take the sun block and camera. Maybe the laptop so I could record everything as it happens (my memory is shocking!!)
by Christina Phillips June 24th, 2009 at 1:47 amDee – it’s a camel train to Patria Oasis – no boats – although a cruise down the Nile is definitely a relaxing way to go.
Brandy – I always enjoy taking photos as well. Hubby and I always take a camera each when we go away.
by Shelley Munro June 24th, 2009 at 2:05 amConnie – A big floppy sun hat is a great idea. We’d probably have a siesta during the hottest part of the day though.
Christina – I think we’ve all agreed when it comes to sunscreen. I’ve been camel riding in Australia too. Australian camels are in high demand these days.
by Shelley Munro June 24th, 2009 at 2:10 amProvided that all the necessities (food, water and lodging) are supplied, I’d take my camera, my cell and sunscreen.
by Dani K June 24th, 2009 at 11:35 ammy sony reader is a must, pain killers camels are supposed to be uncomfatable and my hips are bad enough already and a camera.
by Hollie June 24th, 2009 at 1:24 pmI’d love a trip to Egypt, don’t know about camels… I’d take my camera, sunscreen and a very big hat. Would love to have some books from my TBR pile, but I guess there will be no time for reading.
by Eva S June 28th, 2009 at 12:54 amI’ve always wanted to visit Egypt. For me, I would bring my latest cellphone (its awesome, with video, camera, internet, reader – the lot!), exra batteries for the phone (‘cos I don’t think there is an outlet somewhere for me to charge my phone!) and my sketchbook! :o)Tamsyn
by Tamsyn T. June 28th, 2009 at 1:47 amI would love to see Egypt,so many wonders to see and I would want to share so I would bring a camera, sunscreen and coffee, they are big tea drinkers and I need my coffee!! lol
by Peggy Gorman June 28th, 2009 at 3:56 amThree things? Well water is the most important. Next would be food. And third would be an emergency medical kit. Those are the basics right?
by LadyVampire June 28th, 2009 at 4:15 amFor 3 unimortant things that I would just want to take along, I would take my camera, a combination sunblock/insect repellent and 3rd would be a personal portable air conditioning unit that you wear around the neck.
I must take deodorant, I would perspire like crazy in the heat, water purifying tablets & deliciously light cool cotton clothing. Again with the perspiring & the heat. I want to enjoy all the sights in relative comfort.
by Mary Preston June 28th, 2009 at 5:07 ammy camera, hubby, and tons of water…
by cherie K June 28th, 2009 at 6:18 amI can’t wait. My niece live in Cario for 3 years so I will consult with her on what to bring. It just sounds so fantastic. I’ve never been out of the country so I am looking forward to this great adventure.
by Gayle O June 28th, 2009 at 8:13 amFor me, given the basics, my three essentials: camera and film (yeah, I’m one of the old-fashioned ones!); my personal pharmacy; and comfortable shoes. Unfortunately, with all the sand outside of the Nile basin, my precious flip-flops wouldn’t do!! Maybe a book or two, but I would assume that there would be english-language bookstores in the cities where I could pick a few up to carry along. No sense in carrying extra weight over that you have to pay through the nose for! Wait and do that on the way home!!
Later,
Lynn
by Lynn R. June 28th, 2009 at 9:21 amSeasick pills! I think I’d get sick with all that swaying …. a cushion for my butt & a nice big floppy hat

I swear I must lived in Egypt in a past because of the draw it has on me. I had a friend who vacationed there and told me MUST haves were a floppy hat, a giant bottle of Aloe Verde (for sunburns and burns off the rough camel hair) and again a GIANT tub of wipes to clean salt for my foreheads to keep out of my eyes.
