I’ve posted New Zealand ads before, and today thought I’d show you two more. I love the first ad, but many viewers thought it was irresponsible and complained about it. They’ve since put out a follow-up ad, which I love just as much.
When I first saw this second ad, my mouth dropped open in shock. I’ll admit I was horrified and I wasn’t alone. They banned the ad from NZ TV for a while until the ban was uplifted, the person making the decision saying it was all in good humor. I’m not sure if this is a NZ ad or not. I still cringe a little when I see it but it’s more in fascination than horror, and I have to say I wouldn’t mind one of the Rav 4s. Oh, okay. I actually laughed a little when I posted it today.
What do you think of these two ads? Do you like them? Dislike them?

I love quirky ads. They are little bits of make-believe, so I don’t them seriously. These two both made me laugh.

I had to watch the first one, simply because the little boy in it looks exactly like my Curly did at that age. As for its message – yeah, not a good one, but I get that it’s fictional. (By the way, when they first started showing him in the car, I thought “But there’s no one driving” Ooops, right, you drive on the ‘other’ side.)
Second one is hilarious – gave me my first chuckle this morning – Thx. It took me a while to realize they were deliberately trying to hurt each other. At first I thought they were just clumsy. I get that it’s meant to be funny not hurtful but I imagine others don’t.

I’ve seen the first ad here in Australia and while I find it cute, I really don’t like the hitch hiker element.
I hadn’t seen the second one, and was giggling at it. Like Leah, it took me a while to figure out they were trying to top each other!!!

Those were fun! They also made me just the teensiest bit uncomfortable, but that’s the ultra-careful-PC part of my brain. The rest of my brain said, “It just pretend, for fun!” and laughed like a maniac.

I must say that while funny they could both be considered in poor taste. The second one reminds me of a cross of the movies Home Alone and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. LOL!
Hugs!

The PC part of my brain went haywire when I first saw the second ad, but as I said, it makes me laugh now. I’ve chilled. As some of you have mentioned – it’s fiction and meant to be fun.
Amy W – now that you mention it the ad is a cross between those two movies.

The first ad reminded me of when I was 4 sitting in the driver’s seat of the family Vauxhall (one where the signal lights would flip up from the sides near the front driver’s and passenger’s doors) and decided to release the parking brake. To my dismay the car began rolling backwards down the lane and my older brothers who were in the backseat were shouting at me to step on the brake. To do that I had to slip down off the seat and stand on the foot pedal with both of my feet, and then I couldn’t see over the steering wheel. The car, thankfully, came to a stop just before ending the street behind. I was scolded by my parents but my brothers got most of the blame as it was thought they put me up to it.
Parents need to remember that children, although small, see everything that goes on around them. That’s how they learn.
The second ad was hilarious, giving me a sideache. After the first horrors revealed the people were able to keep on going the video became black humour. For anyone to take it seriously…pah
