My husband likes cooking and he really loves grocery shopping. It’s one of his favorite things, and he can spend ages in a grocery store. We have a couple of grocery loyalty cards and the other day we received a fifteen dollar voucher along with a coupon offering free freight if you purchased online.
Hubby was reluctant. “But I like grocery shopping,” he said.
I said, “But we won’t have time to go shopping this weekend because you’re on call and our fridge is empty.”
(We usually shop together)
“Well I suppose you could register and we could try shopping online,” he said.
I promptly registered and played with the website. It was easy to register, easy to navigate and actually quite a bit of fun in a geeky way.
I said to hubby, “You come and try it.”
He did, ordering the rest of the things on our list, although he still complained that it wasn’t the same as the real thing. Our order arrived the next day, during the specified time, all present and correct. Unknown to me hubby had added chocolate to the list. “It’s the healthy stuff,” he said. “Dark chocolate with lots of cocoa.”
Me nodding. (Like I need an excuse for chocolate)
I found the online experience easy and efficient. My personal shopper rang to query when there were two items that were out of stock. We didn’t do any impulse buying, apart from the chocolate and saved money. We didn’t use as many of the plastic bags in the packing process. You do need to watch the sizes of things to make sure you’re getting either large or small as you prefer. Sometimes it isn’t obvious. I imagine each order would become easier as you get to know the site. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. Hubby isn’t so convinced.
Have you tried grocery shopping online? If you haven’t, would you try it if the option were available?

We use online shopping all the time. It costs £5 for delivery, but it would cost us more than that it petrol to get to the store and back.
It saves SO much energy, plus we save money because we buy what we need and don’t get sucked into the adverts.
Plus we use tesco.com, and they save what we’ve bought before with our loyalty card, so we can always just go to our “previous shopping” list and check the same items again for our usual stuff, and use a search for any unusual items.
I used to like going to the grocery store too… but now I have to say I like the freedom of not being tied to spending a couple hours picking out veg and loading up the car, carrying it in, etc!

I haven’t done grocery shopping that way, as far as I know it’s not available around here. I would give it a go if I could. While I don’t mind wandering the aisles and making my selections, the whole checkout and pack your bags, then put them all into the car, then carry them from the car to the house … *shudder* I could do without that end of it.

I’ve never grocery shopped online but I would love that. I don’t really like grocery shopping so this would be ideal for me!

I would love to buy groceries online! We are a one vehicle family, so I always have to wait to go shopping when my husband and I are both home from work and I’d much rather be doing other stuff. I can’t wait until this service is offered around here

I think this would be good for a mother with young kids. There’s nothing worse than a kid having a tantrum in the middle of a supermarket aisle because Mum said no to an item. And all those busy little hands can be a nightmare, too.

Our store used to offer it for curb side pick up. I miss that. It was especially nice when Emma was a baby because we didn’t have to get out of the car with the infant in tow. Sadly now they moved stores and it isn’t an option, let alone home delivery. but there are places online where you can order things to be shipped overnight in a foam box with ice packs… like chocolate & ice cream. I’ve done those before. LOL!
Hugs!

So don’t your large supermarket chains offer this service in the US? Óur supermarkets have offered this service for a few years now. Hubby and I have only just tried it out. It certainly cuts down on impulse buying!

My family started using FreshDirect, a popular online food shopping site (One can see their delivery trucks all over the city). They’re really good. Nowadays, I simply don’t have time or energy to lug grocery bags around. The online service is very helpful.
