I know you’re all cold and shivering in the snow in the Northern hemisphere, but we’re dealing with heat down this end of the world.
Today was one of the hottest days we’ve had all year, with most areas of New Zealand hitting 30C. That’s hot for us. It’s also extra hot in Australia with lots of bushfires, especially in Victoria and New South Wales. (Queensland is bucking the trend with floods.)
My heart goes out to all those who have lost family, friends and their homes in the fires. New Zealand firemen are on standby in a couple of areas because of the danger of fires due to extreme dryness.
I’m not very good with heat. I wilt like a little flower and have spent all day hiding inside, trying to polish my current work in progress. Air conditioning isn’t a common thing to have in a NZ home, but I’ve had every door and window open and there has been a bit of a breeze.
Do you like hot weather? What’s your favorite way to deal with the heat? How do you chill out and keep your cool?

I do live on the other side of your world, but I live in the south, so I don’t experience the frigid temps that people further north do.
Still I miss the green. It shouldn’t be long now. I am starting to see some buds on the trees.
But in answer to your question, I’d rather have hot weather than cold. I can garden longer and there’s no snow shoveling involved.
As for dealing with the heat, I learned the hard way that I have to keep drinking water. And I am constantly on the lookout for events and venues that have free air conditioning. lol. –movies, malls and museums.

I used to like hot weather until I started having hot flashes. LOL! I prefer a moderate climate—not too hot and not too cold.

I’m not big on a really hot summer, but even I have to admit it’s been a LONG winter here and I’d take heat over this snow and cold…but I understand how oppressive and dangerous that very harsh heat can be.

I hate heat. The average German summer makes me want to emigrate to Greenland, and we don’t get 30+ °C that often.

i live in the desert of Arizona where our summer temps are over 100 degrees for weeks at a time. I love it-I usually cool off by doing my work in the early morning or late evenings and spend time indoors during the day.
Here in this area we have added ways to cool off-we use trees and shurbs surrounding our houses, we use misters on our patios, we have insulated homes usually with patios or screened in porches, and unusual building mateials.
When are you coming to Arizona to see our many famous ghost towns? We have a lot here.

The fires are a horrible tragedy. Hope they can get them put out.

I usually hate the heat – and prefer to be inside in the air conditioning when it’s really hot, but after a particularly cold winter this year, I’m looking forward to summer for a change.

Maria – Snow shoveling sounds like hard work to me. I’m so glad we don’t have that problem here in NZ. (well, in most parts of NZ)
That’s a good tip about visiting air-con places, too.

This afternoon it is cooler and it looks as if it might rain. I went for a bike ride and the cool breeze was actually very pleasant. I also had an ice cream. That was very nice!!
JOYE – that’s hot. I have a feeling I have visited a few parts of Arizona. Oh, yes. I have. We went to Phoenix and a desert museum place with lots of interesting animals and bugs. That was the Sonara Desert from memory. I remember it being really hot, but that was a few years ago when we did an overland trip from Alaska to Panama and were heading to Mexico. I’d love to visit again one day. I’ll have to add it to the list. No doubt hubby will tut and shake his head.

When it becomes overly hot in Toronto in the summer it is often humid too. I close all the windows during a cooler night before a stretch of hot weather and keep them closed, and covered with heavy drapes. I don’t own an air conditioner. This keeps my apartment relatively cool, and thank goodness I have a northeastern exposure so I’m away from the side that takes the brunt of the sunshine. I have an air cleaner during the times the air becomes a little stale inside to avoid opening the windows to let in the dreaded moist hot air.

Barbara – thankfully it rained last night to cool things down but it’s turned humid again. Our house sees a lot of sun but with the doors open it’s not too bad. It’s well insulated and keeps fairly cool during the summer and warm in the winter.
