I’m overdue a visit to the hairdresser. My hair looks like a bird’s nest and that’s the just the start of my description. This naturally led me to thinking about hair and thoughts of a Thursday Thirteen. You know how random my mind is when it comes to a TT. So, here we go – 13 different hairstyles…
(source – Building Believable Characters by Marc McCutcheon)
1. Beehive – a very tall, dome-like style reminiscent of a beehive. Popularly worn from the late 1950s to early 1960s.
2. Afro – a kinky bushy style of the 1960s and early 1970s.
3. Cleopatra – long and straight down the sides.
4. Braids – plaited hair. May be worn down the back, to the sides or wound around the head. Also small plaits all over the head.
5. Ducktail – a classic 1950s style in which the hair was oiled, combed back over the ears, and molded up in back to form what looked like the tail of a duck. Also known as a DA or duck’s ass.
6. Comb Over – long strands of hair that are brushed across to hide a bald spot. Not so good on a windy day.
7. China Doll – short and straight with bangs.
8. Pompadour – a style in which hair is swept up high from the forehead, popular in the early 1900s and revived in variations since then.
9. Mohawk – a shaved head with a brush of hair one to six inches high running down the middle of the scalp. Originally worn by Mohawk Indians but revived by punk rockers in the 1980s.
10. Skinhead – a shaved head.
11. Empire Cone – a style revived by Madonna, in which the hair is pulled through a cone-like contrivance and worn as a ponytail from the top of the head.
12. Fade – also known as a gumby or the slope, a flattop cut at a slant, sometimes with shaved lines or designs through it, a popular style among young men in the 1990s.
13. Dreadlocks – tight, dangling, shoulder-length braids originally worn by the Rastafarians of Jamaica.
My favorite hairstyle for a guy is short – really short, especially if he has a nice shaped head. Imagine David Beckham and you’re pretty close. And just in case you’re not good at imagining here’s some help.
What is your preference for hairstyles for men? Women? Are there any styles you dislike?

On a guy, long enough to grab a handful of but not long enough to braid.

An interesting idea you had, here.
I’ve found that different guys can carry off different hairstyles, making them equally attractive to me.
In general, though, I have to concur with Inez.
Happy TT!

I like both short and long hair on men. My husband can carry off both. Personally, when his hair gets long I LOVE it!

You know, Mr. Robin had hair when I met him…ah, those were the days.

My husband has that nice thick hair I love to bury my fingers in.
Most of the heroes in my book do too. LOL.
Remember the big 80′s hair with the hair sprayed bangs that looked like spiders?
Yeah, I don’t wanna talk about it.

I’m with Adelle. Long does it for me, not that you see much of it in the real world anymore

Men need to either have thick hair that can be grabbed by the handful, or should shave their heads to a silky smoothness that begs to be rubbed.
…or maybe that’s just me.
Happy TT!

I have to agree that I like short hair on men. Either the extreme short of that picture of David Beckham or just long enough to run my fingers through.

How come Princess Leia’s sticky bun rolls didn’t make the list? hmmmm?

Gwen – that’s a huge oversight on my part! consider the sticky bun rolls added.
I like long hair on a male, too, but only if he looks after it. Long and greasy is not a good look!

I like my husband’s hair, but it’s so thick it doesn’t do anything. I don’t mind bald heads, but I hate comb overs.
For me on me I like my pixie. :)

As MsMenozzi said, some guys look better with longer hair (provided it’s clean), some look better with short. It really depends on the guy. Dreads are about the one thing I can’t stand.

I guess it depends on the guy…But I like mine with short, bald or long hair.

As many have said, both lengths can look good, depending on the man and the specifics of the style. I do tend to prefer short, but do make exceptions ;)

i hate getting nits so having short hair is the best way not to get them

I like close cropped with a nice shaped head, too, but I also like dreadlocks. I guess the only thing I really don’t like is the comb over.

I love Beckham :)
As long as he doesn’t talk.

Angie – did you have to mention nits? Suddenly I’m feeling very itchy!
Alice – quite a few of our New Zealand rugby players have dreads and they actually look really good.
JK – now would you really want him to talk???? He was in NZ last week playing soccer and I was impressed with the way he handled himself and spoke. Maybe he’s had training of some sort???

It depends on the man. I like well-kept long hair on a guy, but I like the military style of a haircut if it suits the man. My hubby had hair when I met him and is thinking of just shaving the rest off. I have wavy hair that is past my bra and it distresses him that I shed enough hair in the shower to make a spot wig for him. But I tell him he’s got hair where it counts because I love a hairy chest. Julie – my husband is always complaining about the amount of hair I shed. Vacuuming is the worst! Luckily our shower has this filter thing that’s easy to clean out otherwise I’d be in real trouble.

Yes! My husband does the vacuuming, but since his dog tends to shed, I just say it must be her. As far as the shower is concerned, now, I do have to use one of those little plastic filter things you get from a store like Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

I like long hair on a man, but my husband has always worn his hair short.
Happy TT.

Julie – and I thought I was being original blaming the dog!!
Janice – husbands don’t always get it right.

Short, long, it’s all good. Depends on the man. :-)

I love a man with nice wavy hair, but certainly not long like a girl’s. Just long enough to run my fingers through if the mood strikes.
