I can see why dog people would like werewolf stories, but I'm not sure why there would be a correlation between cat people and vampires. LOL

That was a great excerpt! I'm going to put it on my wishlist. :)

I am by nature a cat person (wild and domestic cats). I always have been even though I was raised around dogs for the first few years of my life. I've had both in the past and I currently have both now (1 dog and 3 cats). I can honestly tell you that I love both vampire and werewolf stories. I started with vamps because I had no idea until I got more into urban fantasy and romance (I was more into Anne Rice and magic (witches/warlocks) when I was younger) that there were really good werewolf stories out there. I'm hooked on both now and I go back and forth between the two.

Julie - Lora Leigh is one of my favorite authors, although I haven't read the one you mentioned. My favorite shifter book of hers is Elizabeth's Wolf. I prefer her contemporary books but do keep up with the Breed series, too.

Love 'em, Shelley. And I don't think a male feline shifter has to be effeminate. I remember several romance stories when I was little (and some now) where the hero moved with a 'panther-like" grace.
In fact, have you read Lora Leigh's "A Jaguar Kiss" from Shifter? OMG, that was a good story!

Oh, Julie. Great and well-thought out answer. Now just to put the cat among the pigeons (so to speak!) where do you stand on feline shifters??? Curious minds want to know.

Shelley (and Aubrey),

I may be going against the grain here, but I think Aubrey has something with her theory. My husband, who is a Leo and more standoffish like a cat, loves vampires. My son too loves vampire stories and he's got three cats. (but guess who takes care of them most of the time?)

Now my husband does have a dog (looks just like the Shaggy DA) and I have a big dog (half Catahoula, half Geman Shepard).

My husband thinks I'm more cat-like, but all my friends think I'm more like a dog because I'm so friendly (just waiting for someone to pet me and love me). For the past few years, I have been more into werewolf stories. To support the hypothesis, about 15 years ago, I was really into cats (my pet was a cat too) and I liked everything vampire. I still do love vampire stories, but have been strangely attracted to wolves of late, even posting pictures of them next to my computer.

Maybe it's unconscious, but maybe with cats, it's something about the sharp little teeth. True, Lycanthropes have sharp canines, but just as in the difference between cats and dogs, the wolf savagely rips his prey, while the vampire hero/ine is neat and almost feline in his/her sensuality. In addition, the vampire still retains his (wo)man form, while the werewolf has to shape shift to become the beast he is within.

I enjoyed this really thought provoking question. Congratulations, Aubrey, on your release.
