James Belshaw, 26, and his girlfriend Sophia Severin, 23, from London, shared an unbroken kiss for 31 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds. They began kissing in the Plaza Shopping Centre in Oxford Street at 11:15 BST on Wednesday. The pair broke the previous record, which was set in the US four years ago, by more than half an hour. Throughout the event they were not allowed to sit, or fall asleep, could only take sustenance through a straw and had to stay kissing even while visiting the toilet.
Now that sounds a little extreme. I like kisses. I like reading about them and writing them, although I’m not sure about 31 plus hours of kissing. It makes my lips hurt thinking about it, but I thought we could share a few virtual kisses today.

Kiss Quotes
It was brief, swift, and then it was done. It was a professional job. I needed to be kissed, and I was kissed. ~Actress Uma Thurman
This girl said “Yes” when I wasn’t ready. I kissed her lightly and got so dizzy I had to sit down. ~Actor Antonio Banderas
The first kiss I had was the most disgusting thing in my life. The girl injected about a pound of saliva, into my mouth, and when I walked away I had to spit it all out. ~Leonardo DiCaprio
If you kiss on the first date and it’s not right, then there will be no second date. Sometimes it’s better to hold out and not kiss for a long time. I am a strong believer in kissing being very intimate, and the minute you kiss, the floodgates open for everything else.
~Jennifer Lopez
A kiss can be a comma, a question mark or an exclamation point. That’s basic spelling that every woman ought to know. ~Mistinguett (Jeanne Bourgeois), Theatre Arts, December 1955
People who throw kisses are mighty hopelessly lazy. ~Bob Hope
Kissing is like drinking salted water. You drink, and your thirst increases. ~ Chinese Proverb
I’ll leave you with a kiss from my latest release, Wanderlust.
Sebastian moved closer, stopping when we almost touched, his expression cloaked in shadows. “Is that it? Don’t I get a kiss good night?”
“I—” His lips came down on mine, interrupting my train of thought about mixing business and pleasure. He nibbled my bottom lip, nipping and soothing the sexy bite with his tongue. When I gasped, he took advantage, pushing his tongue inside. Our tongues moved together in a sensual dance. Our breath mingled. It was as if we’d never parted. Sebastian drew me closer, fitting our bodies together. My breasts squashed against his muscled chest, increasing the throb of excitement that pounded me. It had been so long. It would be so easy to open the door to my cabin and let him inside. Apart from the fact that Elizabeth would arrive back at some stage and it was against hotel rules.
My mind hazed with pleasure, moisture starting to form between my thighs. Temptation slithered through my veins, and it was with deep regret that I pulled back from the kiss. “Good night, Sebastian.”
He smoothed his palm across my cheek. The tender gesture brought renewed desire and the siren lure of lust and temptation. So enticing just to step into his arms, hold on and never let go.
“Good night, sweetheart. Happy birthday.” He smiled before turning away and walking off into the darkness.

ALL THE WAY HOME
Why didn’t he kiss her? Was he being deliberately obtuse or did he still think of her as the innocent little girl he’d known in school? How was she going to get him going? It wasn’t a problem she had figured she would have.
With the warmth of his closeness, the ache was beginning to throb. Had she ever felt this exquisite longing before? She couldn’t remember the last time she’d wanted anyone so much. She thought she would just spontaneously combust soon if he didn’t touch her. She waited another excruciatingly long ten seconds and then couldn’t stand it anymore.
She had to make her move.
Maggie shifted to face Sam and laid a hand high on his thigh. She tilted her face up to his and found her mouth crushed beneath his before she could draw a breath.
Yes, she nearly sang in relief as Sam pulled her to straddle his lap. One of his hands fisted in her hair while the other streaked up the front of her shirt. She could feel his arousal straining against his jeans and ground herself against him to show him her own need.
Oh god, touch me, she thought as his hands found her skin. She wanted to scream out her triumph, but couldn’t find her voice. Instead, she arched her back and moaned with pleasure as he pulled up her shirt and she felt his warm breath and mouth on her breasts.
Maggie plunged into Sam’s kiss once more and lost herself in the heat that engulfed her. She’d never felt this overwhelming need before, the reckless heady feeling that had her wanting to rip off his clothes and take him inside.
The minute he touched her, she was blinded by lust.

WARNING - m/m genre
“My place or yours?” Lucas asked, touching my arm.
I grasped his calloused hand and tugged him deep into the shadows of the pub where no prying eyes could see. Without any warning my mouth crashed down on his. No finesse or gentleness, just truth and desire. Passion. Luckily Lucas didn’t protest. He leaned into me, gripping my shoulders painfully tight. Our lips moved together before we both opened our mouths and took the kiss into carnal, tongues sliding together, tastes mingling. His tongue was rough, the coarse abrasiveness shooting desire straight to my cock. I ground my hips against him, my eyes closing to savor the zap of pleasure when our erections rubbed together. This was going to be good. Hard to see how it wouldn’t be.
I pulled away as suddenly as I’d grabbed Lucas and rested my forehead against his for a scant second before stepping back. “Your place. It will be a lot more private than the hostel where I’m staying.”

by Shelley Munro April 25th, 2008 at 12:13 amGreat excerpts! I actually just wrote the first kiss scene in my current WIP last night so I’ll share.
UNTITLED MENAGE - 497 words - Rough Draft
“We’re gonna kiss you Andy,” Brad said. His voice pitched low so no one outside the shadow could hear.
“What? But…”
A long, thick finger pressed to her lips, stilling her argument.
“We’re going to kiss you but that’s all.”
“For tonight,” Liam added from behind her.
Brad approached but Miranda backed away until she couldn’t anymore. Liam was at her back, his arms locked around her waist.
“I thought we were going be friends,” Miranda said. Her voice was shrill, on the edge of panic.
“We are.” Brad smiled and cupped her cheek.
Time seemed to stand still as his head lowered. Her eyes closed automatically and she tipped upwards to meet him, even though her brain was shouting for her to wait, to push him away because this would ruin everything. How could he kiss her while Liam was here, how could Liam watch? More importantly, why did the thought of kissing them both make her damp?
Then Brad’s lips, firm and hot, met hers and the chilly air turned to a sauna. His big, calloused thumb traced the edge of her jaw as he teased her mouth with his. It was a gentle assault that had her pleading silently. His tongue flicked against her bottom lip until she parted them on a gasp. Brad stepped closer, with the hand that still cupped her cheek he tilted her head and deepened the kiss. Their tongues danced until a moan escaped her throat.
Through the fog of desire swallowing her brain Miranda could feel Liam’s heat against her back. His strong, solid arms kept her firmly in place while his thumb traced the underside of her left breast in a mischievous, impatient manner.
She was drowning in sensation and just when she thought she might die from pleasure Brad broke the kiss. His breathe fanned across her face in warm, quick bursts. Slowly, she opened her eyes but could barely see in the dark. Before she could speak, Liam twirled her to face him.
“My turn,” he growled, reaching for her face with both hands.
He didn’t wait for her to breathe, didn’t give her a second to prepare. He just devoured her. Still reeling from Brad’s kiss she was catapulted into the deep end of longing. Beneath her skin, blood was ablaze and alive. His teeth grazed her lips, her tongue teased his. Then, suddenly, Brad was there. He seized her hips in a firm grip, fit his body snug against her backside, and pressed tender kisses to her neck.
Miranda clutched Liam’s shoulders and dimly noticed the chiseled outlines of firm muscle beneath her fingers. She wanted more. Suddenly greedy, she grasped Liam’s head with both her hands and took what she needed. Liam groaned. Brad chuckled. Both sounds sent vibrations from her toes to her head. She felt her nipples pebble and the gush of desire that followed only increased the eroticism of the moment.
She was sinking but God it felt good.

by Hollie April 25th, 2008 at 5:51 amKissing for 31 hours!! How were their lips after that??
Here is a first kiss from TO LOVE A HERO. It won the FTHRW Wallflower contest before publication of the book. The story takes place in Belarus.
First Kiss:
A stack of dishes in her hands, Cecile followed Elena to the small kitchen, furnished with white cabinets and a marble countertop. Elena hand-washed the china, trying to converse in a jumble of Russian, English and expressive hand gestures. While Cecile dried the dishes and silverware, she smiled and nodded, not sure she understood.
As Cecile put away the last fork and turned to leave the kitchen, she froze. The general’s massive shoulders blocked the entrance. He stepped in and spoke in Russian. Elena nodded and edged around him to the hallway.
Cecile gasped, stunned by his audacity. “You kicked her out of her own kitchen.”
“I very politely asked her if she would allow me a few minutes of privacy to discuss the contract.” Unperturbed, Sergei chuckled, his eyes gleaming with mischievous sparks. He closed the door behind their hostess.
Cecile raised her eyebrows. “General Fedorin, the Nicouvitches invited us. We can’t just abandon them to chitchat in the kitchen.”
“Trust me. We will not be missed,” Sergei assured her with a shrug. “You can hear Nicolai playing his guitar. And John is so drunk he can’t remember his name right now.”
Cecile couldn’t suppress her laughter. He’d locked her in the kitchen to discuss the contract? Her pulse accelerated. She was afraid to guess his intentions, afraid and thrilled.
Folding her arms, she tilted her head. “Okay, what’s so urgent about the contract?”
“The contract, hmm…” He hesitated. “The contract is starting well, as far as I can see. I want to tell you how much I appreciate the effort of the…of our lovely Program Manager.” He stumbled on the words with a sheepish smile, then held her shoulders. “I like her kindness. Her delicate beauty.”
A warm tingling crawled between her legs. Her calm assurance deserted her. She knew her assertive strength would betray her in a second under the onslaught of his charm and she’d melt in his arms like a solitary snowflake under glorious sunshine.
“Please, let’s go back.” She tried to disengage herself from his grasp.
“Wait.” Sergei stepped closer and enfolded her in his arms. “Cecilya, you have invaded my life and my soul. I can’t let you go.” He squeezed her against him and pressed blazing lips against her temple.
Cecile sighed, already consumed by his heat and her desire. How long could she fight her own heart and body? She closed her eyes, enjoying the feel of firm lips and gentle hands. For a moment, she leaned against him, feeling cozy, cushioned by rippling muscles.
His hand played with a lock of her hair then caressed her cheek. She breathed in slow gulps, wishing and waiting for his kiss. His fingers brushed over the contour of her parted lips. Her eyelids dropped as she accepted defeat.
Sergei’s hand slid to her back pressing her against the hard length of his body. His mouth claimed hers, warm and demanding.
She tasted the burning vodka on his tongue and looped her arms around his neck, welding her aching body to his muscular frame. Although, she’d hardly swallowed two sips of her vodka, she felt drunk, intoxicated by his kiss and the liquor. She freed her mouth gasping for air and breathed in the mingled scents of alcohol and cologne.
She nestled her head into the hollow of his shoulder, her fingers combing the hair at his nape. Sergei rested his chin against her forehead.
“Cecilya, we can’t wait for fate to hand us an hour here and there.” She moaned softly, sharing his frustration. “I need to see you…privately. I’ll ask Nicolai to drive you tomorrow.” He smoothed her hair. His hand slid to cradle her cheek. Like a kitten ready to purr, she rubbed her face against his palm. “Will you come?” His voice grated low with his urgency.
She nodded, without bothering to ask where they would meet.
His fiery gaze locked with hers, demanding and promising. Soon.
For one breathless moment, she realized she would give anything to keep his arms around her body and his lips on hers.

Hi Hollie - it’s great to see you, and thank you!
Mona - I hate to think what their lips felt like after 31 hours.
by Shelley Munro April 25th, 2008 at 2:34 pmGreat kiss-a-thon!
Here’s an excerpt from my short story Truth,” currently unpublished.
***
Their eyes met. Justin leaned forward, “I dare you to kiss me.”
“Justin…”
“Just one kiss.” Erin felt his breath against her cheek.
She closed her eyes and leaned toward him. They kissed. It was like she remembered, his lips soft as they brushed against hers. But then Justin grabbed the back of her neck and held her to him as his tongue slipped into her.
Erin moaned and opened her mouth wider, welcoming him in. She had wanted him for so long. They continued, tongues tangling and mouths moving together with a wild urgency.
It wasn’t long before Erin was on her back with Justin above her. He ground his pelvis against her and she could feel his erection straining against the front of his thin soccer shorts. The storm raging around them matched their passion. The electric charge in the air mimicked the tingle of skin against skin, and the crash of thunder drowned out their groans.
Justin sucked her bottom lip into his mouth, and then slowly released it. He kissed his way down her chin and neck. His hand ran up her side until he cupped her breast and brushed her nipple standing firm under the wet t-shirt clinging to her skin. Justin squeezed it between his fingers and Erin’s hips rose off the platform.

I love when the tension builds between the characters in the book until the moment they kiss and it all just explodes practically setting the pages on fire…
by Michelle B. April 25th, 2008 at 7:35 pmOMG. they carried on kissing while on the toilet? That’s just… gross!!!
by Christina Phillips April 26th, 2008 at 1:34 amLOL, Christina. That concerned me a little as well.
Michelle B - definitely. All that sensual tension finally finding an outlet.
by Shelley Munro April 26th, 2008 at 3:19 amGreat idea, Shelly, and I enjoyed all of those scenes! So much of romance hinges on that first kiss.
I agree, 31 hours is ridiculous, but hey - it’s their 15 minutes of fame!
by Gwen Mitchell April 26th, 2008 at 2:22 pmI would have lost that contest because I would have stopped kissing to use the facilities. Sorry, but this girl has standards. LOL!
I loved all the kisses that I read, but I have to say that Kelsey’s took my breath away! I’m going to have to keep an eye out for this one.
by Dani April 26th, 2008 at 4:36 pmTook me awhile to get back to the kiss-a-thon - glad it’s still here! Great excerpts, from you and all the commenters. Here’s a first kiss from my WIP dark age vampire novel:
Brotherhood of Blood
“You are a good man, Peredur. Why should I not have you for my husband?”
He grabbed her quickly and embraced her, burying his face in her black hair. “You would have chosen me, Tanwen?”
“I chose you long ago. You just didn’t notice.”
He rocked her, grabbed her curls in his hands, felt her clasp him in her arms as tightly as she could. They stayed that way for a long time as she wept.
His unshed tears burned. His heart crushed to hear her sobbing. Breaking their embrace to gaze on her, he saw her need in those brown eyes.
He bent his head to hers, pressed his lips to hers. Tanwen’s mouth was more tender than he’d ever dreamed it could be. But there were questions in her caresses.
by julia April 26th, 2008 at 7:15 pmGreat kisses! Thanks Kathleen and Julia.
