It’s me today – Shelley. As well as being my birthday this month (the date is still a closely guarded secret – enter my website contest and take a guess.) today is the release of Last Wish, my paranormal/genie/gay/Christmas romance. As you can see I managed to get lots into the description! Today I’m going to talk about genies and point you toward some other very hot genie reads already available at Ellora’s Cave.
Let me know what you think about genie books and if you have suggestions of other genie titles please post them below. I’d also like to know if you were a genie, what sort of container would you like to have? What sort of container do you think you’d end up in?
Everyone who comments will go into the draw to win…strangely enough…not a genie book, but their choice of a print copy of either The Second Seduction or The Shadow.
Genies
Genie is the English term for the Arabic ??? (jinnie), a magical firey spirit.
The Arabic word “jinn” literally means anything which has the connotation of concealment, invisibility, seclusion, and remoteness. In pre-Islamic Asian-Mid Eastern folklore and in Islamic Culture, a jinni (also “djinni” or “djini”) is a member of the jinn (or “djinn”), generally thought to be a race of supernatural creatures. (from Wikipedia). Our English version of genies is different from the Arabic one. Think of the genial genie in the Aladdin cartoons and Jeanie in the TV show, I Dream of Jeanie, which was a comedy.
I recently read a book called The Caliph’s house by Tahir Shah.
Here’s the library blurb – In the tradition of A Year in Provence and Under the Tuscan Sun, acclaimed English travel writer Tahir Shah shares a highly entertaining account of making an exotic dream come true. By turns hilarious and harrowing, here is the story of his family’s move from the gray skies of London to the sun-drenched city of Casablanca, where Islamic tradition and African folklore converge and nothing is as easy as it seems…
Mr Shah’s new purchase, the Caliph’s house came complete with fiery djinn. At first he rubbished the idea but his new house staff were very serious. The first night the family moved into the house they told Mr Shah he’d have to move his family to a hotel, that it wasn’t safe. He ended up staying but his staff told him he and his family couldn’t use the restrooms. About five am in the morning Mr Shah was desperate. He crept down to use the facilities but was interrupted by a member of staff who slammed down the toilet lid…um…mid-flow. Serious stuff, and I found the different things they did to appease the djinn fascinating. You’ll have to read it to find out how the problem was resolved.
Here are my suggestions for genie/djinn related books available or coming very soon from Ellora’s Cave.

Trouble with Harry and its sequel Trouble with Will by Myla Jackson. In 1924, William Moreland and his friend Harry, adventurous archeologists, uncover their greatest discovery—the magical stone of Azhi. Legend tells of the stone’s great power to grant wishes. When Will lays his hands on the prize, he’s sucked into a bottle to sleep for over eighty years. A similar thing happens to Harry.
Check out the very hot adventures of these two archeologists turned genies. Both books are now available in print.

Jennie In a Bottle By Titania Ladley
After four centuries of banishment to a bottle for her frigidness, Jennie Sebastian’s primed and ready to fulfill her orders. And if she succeeds in this difficult feat, she’ll receive a prestigious promotion from lowly genie to the Goddess of Carnality. Set free from the bottle, she never expects to meet a master like Luke Slayton. But there’s no time to fall in love. The clock is ticking…
Hedonism resort owner Luke Slayton is bored with his life. He’s had every woman in every position in every setting he can think of. And while he enjoys being a businessman, he desperately desires a change in his predictable world. But waking up to find a strange bottle on the beach of his private Florida island isn’t the real remedy he needs. After all, Jennie’s too good to be true…she’s just a dream. Or maybe she’s truly an immortal being, one that could never tie herself to a mortal man-a man in love with a genie in a bottle.
Me Tarzan, You Jewel By Titania Ladley
Sequel to Jennie In a Bottle.
The last thing Jewel Dublin wants is to be stranded on a deserted island with her former flame. But when she wakes up one morning to find a strange bottle on her dresser, she discovers she has no choice. Whisked away to Carnal Island by a genie, she’s forced to face demons from her past some painful and others erotic.
Vince Santiago’s life is just fine the way it is, women at his beck and call, a posh condo in Denver and a fat bank account. At least that’s what he thinks… Until a sexy genie dumps him on a deserted tropical island with a woman who seems vaguely familiar to him. Forced to drag up a long-buried past, “Tarzan” comes face-to-face with “Jane”, who’s hell-bent on driving him mad with lust. He’s beginning to think he’s got a terrible case of jungle fever!

Lyrael’s Sacrifice By Jory Strong
Lyrael’s blonde hair and blue eyes mark her as Azzura, one those raised to be given to the Djinn. When she dreams of a panther that shifts into a bird before changing into a serpent, she knows she will be the next Azzura sacrificed.
Whether she lives or dies will depend on her courage, her determination. And her trust in Asrafil, the Djinn prince who introduces her to carnal pleasure and will name her the wife of his heart, his flesh, his spirit—if she passes the tests necessary to enter the city of the Djinn.
Jory’s story is a little different because her djinn are perceived as evil. I really liked this story.

Last Wish by Shelley Munro Freedom. Zane craves it, but to earn liberty he must fulfill the last wish on his genie contract and evade his boss’s clutches for ten days. If he fails, it will mean another term of genie duty. Been there. Bought the T-shirt. This time Zane is determined to beat the odds and grab his chance at freedom.
When Dillon Sanderson goes to the antique market, the last thing he expects is a gorgeous genie to materialize in front of him. Handsome. Charismatic. Tempting and enticing. Dillon takes one look and wants to explore the sparks of attraction leaping between them. He offers the sexy genie a place to hide. The tentative friendship quickly grows to more—raw need explodes into passion and hot, toe-curling sex. Long nights of intense lovin’ lead to mutual pleasure and loads of unrestrained fun along with hijinks in the kitchen.
Dillon has fallen fast and wants forever, but Zane is determined to leave once he’s free and intends to celebrate his independence alone. Somehow Dillon has to persuade him they’re perfect together because time is running out and Zane’s boss is hot on their trail…

I don’t believe I’ve read any genie books, although I do like genies. Ugh… now you’ve opened up a whole “new world” (sorry… Aladdin comment just came too easy… LOL!!!) for me. My poor, poor credit cards!!!
Container huh? I’d probably like to have a pretty container like the girl in I Dream of Jeannie, but purple rather than pink. LOL!!! Of course, knowing my luck I’d end up in a tic tac box or something else with “itty bitty living space”. (okay, I’m obviously really tired still or I wouldn’t be making such bad/stupid Aladdin jokes)
Thanks for all the book recommendations Shelley!

I only read one of the books you mentioned the Jennie in a Bottle book. I think if I was a genie, I would have a beautiful translucent blue/gold bottle. I’d be a handful to whomever rubbed me!!

The Djinn stories I’ve been loving are the Weather Warden books. I love the myth she’s created for that series and have enjoyed the way she’s written not only the strong female lead, but the love interests.
I’ve got Last Wish on my book list though.

Rhonda W – It’s only fair that our credit cards groan together, and mine is, believe me! A tic tac box, huh? LOL I was thinking I’d end up in something really ugly that no one would want to open. I’d open a tic tac box.
Tempest – you wish
Laura K – I LOVE the sound of your bottle. It sounds like you’d have fun carrying out your genie duties.
Tammy G – Oops, sorry about that!
RD Solange – ah, I was straining my brain trying to think of genie stories the other day. Of course! I love the Weather Warden stories and have read all but the last one. I must get my hands on it. Kathleen Nance also has an older djinn series.
Rhonda B – thanks Rhonda!
Christine – is your genie story out or sold? I’ll have to put it on my list.
Hi JOYE – thanks so much.

I haven’t read any genie books yet. But I will :) And if I was a genie, my container would be a cookie jar! How about “Who’s Caught the Genie in the Cookie Jar?” for a title?
Take care!

I’ve read only one genie book and it was years ago. I didn’t like it because the heroine wasted her wishes on material things, when she clearly should have been wishing her so sexy genie would jump her bones.
I totally suck at titles but if I were a genie I’d like to be in one of those pretty perfume bottles. You know the ones that come in different colors and have the frilly little handles.
Happy Birthday (month) Shelley!

I have read Jinn book and loved it was a while ago. I think if I had to be put into anything I would want an old antique from Greece with celt writing on it like a vase, jewerl box something on those lines. I will be adding this story to the list to buy for this weekend oh is it getting long

Congrats on the new release of Last Wish! :)
I don’t think I have read any Genie books, but it does sound like an interesting topic to read. But do “I Dream of Jeanie” tv show count? Hey I think that is a cool title or how about Three Wishes or Final Wish.

I do enjoy genie stories. Great list of titles. Will have to try one soon. It has been awhile since I read a genie story.
A title suggestion: Wish Upon a Bottle

Hi Suzanne – I’d better warn you – just a hint of Christmas in there. It’s set at Christmas time, but the main story is about Zane trying to get out of his genie contract and the resulting romance. An old Greek bottle sounds like fun!
Cathy M – I love genie stories. I hope you enjoy some of the ones I mentioned.
Jacquie – a cookie jar! Excellent

Sapphire – Thanks for the birthday wishes! I agree – the heroine you read about was definitely misguided!
Gabriele – ah, yes. Things have changed since Aladdin’s time!
Amelia – thanks very much. I’m very excited about the release of Last Wish. I used to watch I Dream of Jeanie. I think they spoiled it when they married off Jeanie and the major. What do you think?
Cherie – love the title. Let me know if you enjoy the ones I’ve suggested.

I’ve picked up yours and can’t wait to read. And I love genie stories. If I were a genie, I’d love to be in a flower bud. Oh I’m too cheesy for words. Delete that. LOL!

Thanks, Lucinda. I haven’t seen any gay genie stories around but I’m sure they’re there somewhere.
Hi, Lilli! Thanks. The Weather Wardens is really good, although not erotic romance.
And of course, I like mine
Red – thanks. Aw, a flower bud genie. That sounds cute

a genie, the perfect fantsy man!

Congrats on the new release,Shelley. Another recommendation, Cynnara Tregarth has some sexy Djinn in her series – Djinn Delight and Deck the Djinn.
Think if I was stuck in a container, would want it to be some old antique that would appeal to some sexy guy, very tarnished, making him rush home to rub off that tarnish examine his find, all that rubbing getting me out to get at him! LOL

I’d love to have a genie
I’ve read a couple a books with genies and they granted some hot wishes.
Congrats on the new release Shelley!

Hi Pam – thanks for the suggestions. I’ll check them out. Tarnished, huh? sounds very naughty
Danette – thanks very much. My genie isn’t so big on the wishes since he’s tired of being a genie and wants out of his contract.

I am too late for the drawing but i do know a couple genie books.
Kathleen Nance has a Djinn series. I have only read Spellbound out of it but it was really good.
There is also a story with a Djinn in the Vegas Bites anthology that was really good.

Happy birthday whenever it is. And congrats on the release.
I have not read any genie books. My ideal container would be a double wide *blinks*. Hey I don’t wanna be cramped.
With my luck, I’d probably end up in a tiny tear drop bottle.
